Marathon Florida Keys Fishing Report, Capt. Chris Johnson, SeaSquared Charters, April 8, 2011
Tim Easterwood and his ten-year-old son, Joe, from Romeo MI shared some quality time on the water and brought dinner back for the family.
It was Joe’s first time ocean fishing so I wanted to show him the diversity of opportunities and species we have here in the Florida Keys. We started with some catch-and-release shark fishing in one of my favorite shallow bay spots. Tim and Joe went three for four on lemon sharks up to seven feet and added a nurse to their action. A couple of the sharks put up such a fight, it took both anglers to get them to the boat!
We switched gears and venues to catch some good eating fish for the rest of the trip. The duo put together a great catch of hogfish, porgy and snapper, which the family planned to dine on at the Island Fish Company in Marathon.
