When Dwain Brannon booked this trip, he told us he had caught two tarpon in his life but had not actually seen either of them.
My deckhand, Jason Bell, and I changed all of that for Dwain and his wife Denise, from Lake Mary Florida.
We fished at the Bahia Honda bridges, where the tarpon have been thick for the last week or so. I was a bit on edge when the rod broke half way through Dwain’s first fish. But he – and the rod – hung in there to bring the tarpon to the boat for a photo opp.
Crabs did the trick as Dwain and Denise hooked up, fought and landed five tarpon in the 60- to 100-pound class during their four-hour trip. And – they got to see all five up close and personal with the pictures to prove it!
Dwain and Denise stayed at Captain Pip’s Marina and Hideaway and enjoyed dinner at Frank’s Grill, among other activities during their stay in Marathon.
