It’s their family Thanksgiving tradition … fishing with SeaSquared Charters!
Tom and Christy DeBartolo, who have a vacation home in Marathon, once again treated their four college-age kids to a Thanksgiving morning of fishing.
We went to the channel humps and they did not disappoint in their usual variety of fish at the end of our hooks.
Spanish and cero mackerel, all sorts of snapper – mangrove, yellowtail and mutton – a bunch of small grouper – black, gag, red and scamp – along with a 40-pound Goliath grouper – all were on the end of their lines.
We also caught and released a trigger fish that had been tagged as one of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission’s research programs.
But, the real treat of the day was the hogfish. I’m not sure how many we caught, but we kept six of these delicacies, with the largest going about 17 inches.
Now, that makes for a grand Thanksgiving feast!
