Dolphin derby for Kevin and Whitney Charleson

posted in: Dolphin, Offshore 0

Coming all the way from Binghamton in upstate New York, Kevin Charleson was eager to get out to the Florida Keys blue water.

Kevin and his fishergirl daughter, Whitney, had a deep blue adventure 25 miles offshore of Marathon Florida Keys.  The target species was dolphin, and we were not disappointed.

We had to pick our way from spot to spot, but in the end we had a nice catch of five gaffer dolphin ranging from 12 to 15 pounds.  There were four bulls and one cow.  Our sixth – and last – fish was too small to keep.

As beautiful as dolphin are in the water ….

they sure do make a mess when they hit the deck of the boat …

With storms brewing all around us, we heading back to the dock but not without escaping some of the rain.  No matter, it was clear at the fish cleaning table!

These five dolphin filled four gallon-size Ziplok bags of tasty fillets!
